404 Not Found on WordPress is commonly encountered when we migrate to another server or when we upload the web from localhost to the web hosting service that we bought. The common cause of this problem is the absence of the .htaccess file on the server.

There are many possibilities why the .htaccess file does not exist on our new server:

  1. The .htaccess file is not compressed when you create a zip file, because this file is hidden file
  2. There are differences in the types of web servers that are used, for example from the NGINX web server that does not use .htaccess, to the apache web server that requires .htaccess

There are 2 ways to fix the 404 error problem

1.Manually create a .htaccess file

The first way is to manually create the .htaccess file. follow these steps:
1. Login to your cPanel Account

2. Click File manager menu
After successfully logging in, click the File manager menu in cPanel

3. Create your own .htaccess
The last step is to make the .htaccess file in the file manager, which is by accessing the public_html folder then clicking the + File menu. Fill in the file name with “.htaccess”, click OK.

2. Reset the Permalink

The second way is to reset the permalink in wordpress. do the following steps:

1. Log in to the wordpress dashboard then click settings & raquo; Permalink as shown below:

2. On the permalink menu, select another postname or permalink that you like, then click save
3. If the second step has no impact, try selecting plain permalink first then SAVE, then select the permalink you like then click SAVE.
